Hags
Hags, the ancient fey spawn of Baba Yaga, come in many different forms, from the lowly Sea Hags, to the ancient and powerful Red Hags.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Hags reproduce by charming males of other humanoid races, they then force themselves upon them, taking their seed. Using dark rituals, they bind the seed with the spirit of a trapped creature of the Ethereal Plane, and grow the creation inside their wombs, giving birth to it after seven months.
If the child is female, they spirit it away and leave her on the doorstep of a family of her race. If it is male, called Hagspawn, they are either killed outright, kept around as personal bodyguards, or left to die in the wilderness.
Growth Rate & Stages
All hags are born as a normal seeming female of their fathers race. At the age of twenty, they undergo a metamorphosis, in which their body shifts and twists, sometimes violently, to allow for the changes of her frame to adjust to that of her new haggish visage.
From this point on, a Hag will look the same until her death, with the exception of Red Hags.
Ecology and Habitats
Hags tend to live in remote and isolated locations, far enough away from civilization as to not be disturbed but close enough that they can still prey upon others.
Hags are able to live in extreme locations that most other species cannot such as deep underwater, in the frozen wastes, and in deadly swamps completely unaffected by the dangers that come with these environments.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Hags are exclusively carnivorous. They have a fondness for the flesh of other humanoids, particularly Elves, especially children.
Depending on the species of Hag, they will often store excess food in magically enchanted bags, or hang it from the roof of their hut or domicile. They are completely unaffected by decay and rot, and there for can comfortably eat the flesh of a rotting corpse, but fresh meat is always prefered.
Biological Cycle
Hags are mostly unaffected by the passage of time once their metamorphosis is complete. They will remain in their twisted and ugly forms until death, be it either by the passage of time or violence.
Additional Information
Social Structure
While it is very rare for Hags to actually be related, all Hags consider themselves to be sisters, often referring to one another as 'Dear Sister' or 'My Sister Love'.
For the majority, Hags are solitary creatures, preferring to live alone their entire life. But they are also known to form a Circle, often made by a minimum of three other Hags, allowing them to fold and meld their powers together to weave more potent spells than each could manage alone. Hags that are have a stronger bond of connection than other hags when they form a Circle, and can form one with fewer than three usually required.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The only place Hags are not found is in the Feywilde, as they are banned from ever returning due to the events that occurred during The Conflict of the Fey. Other than that they can be found in nearly every other place within the Material Plane, and within some places on the Astral and Ethereal Plane as well.
Average Intelligence
Very high.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Hags require other species to reproduce, often enchanting or bewitching males and luring them into their lairs, where they are then usually kept alive to be tortured, used for food, and are repeatedly forced to engage sexually with the Hag in order to produce offspring. They males they kidnap are occasionally released once a female is born, but they are often so physically and mentally scarred from their captivity that they die shortly after returning to their home, usually by suicide.
Civilization and Culture
Beauty Ideals
Hags curiously hold ugliness and deformity as beauty, considering themselves to be the most perfect example of beauty within the world, often going o far as to pity or loath the beautiful, even going so far as to physically harm them to cause disfigurement in order to 'improve their look.'
