Blessing of Barrax the Sage

Gaining Barrax's blessing is not easy...one must resist greed and temptation of the highest order, and have shown true scholarly insight.

The blessing bestows one of six boons chosen daily at dawn:

  • Whispered Recall: You may perfectly recall any piece of lore you have ever read, even if it was only glimpsed or half-read. You may also ask the DM one question about a magical phenomenon, and Barrax's voice may whisper an answer (DM's discretion — may be cryptic).
  • Ghost of the Sage: As a reaction, when you fail an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw, you can instead succeed, as Barrax momentarily shields your mind with his own.
  • Grave Calculations: You can cast Augury without components. When you do, the omen comes in Barrax’s voice and may include unsettling or overly literal interpretations.
  • Blackmantle’s Echo: You can use Misty Step once, leaving behind a brief afterimage that whispers one of Barrax’s riddles or curses (this is purely cosmetic).
  • Writ of the Crypt: When reading an inscription or magical text, you may ask the DM to reveal a hidden truth others would overlook.
  • Soul-Shard of Barrax: You may cast Fire Bolt once without needing components, even if you're not a spellcaster.

  • Side/Secondary Effects

You can speak, read, and write one long-dead language of your choice (e.g., Netherese, Ancient Draconic, etc.).

    Manifestation

A dry wind blows, smelling of desert flowers and parchment paper, as these abilities are used.
