Embercrown Orctribes
"The Orcish tribes of Emberrain are deceptively masculine. The wandering nomad tribes of the desert travel with few women, and when they do, they are rarely orcish. All day to day doings of the camps are organized by the men, but they do so with much input from written tablets and take their time weighing decisions. Upon my initial capture, I saw only the brutality and ferocity of the orcs, but when they came to their hovel cities after raiding the desert, they seemed oddly subdued. No transaction of goods or slaves were done without a matron overseeing, and many an orc carrying bastards home from wars and raids were left out in the cold by their wives. I believe my life was spared on account of my letters and medicinal knowledge, and only because an orc-matron saw fit to take advantage of said skills". - T. Colminster, 2048 A.B, On Orcish Society: A Treatise on the Tribes of the Emberrain Dunes.
Structure
Despite the heavily matriarchical societal structure of the Emberrain Orcs, its supreme leader is usually a warlord, albeit one that strictly follows and adheres to the codified laws of their lands. They are also highly religious, and most of their laws are rooted in the worship of Grenda, The Broodmother. Orcs are deliberately marked with burns and scarring to denote their standing in orc society, and some are even disfigured to display their shame, or fall from status.
