Shelmere

Historically, it was long suspected that something "bad" happened in Shelmere. As long as anyone could remember, the ruined city was always a haunted place. Those who know of this site avoid it, as those who don't are said to disappear without a trace. Whatever event left so many unquiet, it must have been very long ago.    The very learned historian may have heard only one worthwhile tale of Shalmere. During a conflict called the Siege of Shelmere, the green dragon Fratarron lead his army of orcs and other wild tribes in an attempt to take the city's wealth. The people of Shelmere attempted to surrender their treasure, but Fratarron had lost control of the barbarous forces under his command. As the people began dying in droves, the already grim environment seemed to reach a tipping point, and murderous wraiths began to pour forth from every shadow. Only those that fled immediately and swiftly managed to survive, and even then scant few of those. It was these people who likely lived to spread the tale of this tragesddy.    Regardless, the region is extremely haunted and very dangerous for the unprepared. Strangely, the potency of the haunting seems to have only gone up over time. It's possible that the barrier between the worlds of the living and the dead has been worn thin. If the trend continues, the whole world could be at risk from the hungry death unleashed here.
