Frostwardens
The Honorable Order of the Frostwardens
The Frostwardens are an order of dwarves tasked with safeguarding Ironholt’s miners and the structural integrity of the kingdom’s vast tunnel networks. Their responsibilities are a blend of engineering, magic, and leadership. Due to the critical nature of their work, all citizens of @ironare expected to obey their commands. To facilitate this, members of the order wear special silver badges of office. These badges take the form of their insignia, a sword piercing a snowflake. Frostwardens undergo rigorous training in mining engineering, rune magic, and survival techniques. They are selected from families with long mining histories, often those who have lost ancestors in the mines. The Frostwardens are highly respected within Ironholt, seen as both protectors and keepers of dwarven heritage. Many carry ceremonial hammers engraved with the names of fallen miners they’ve sworn to honor.Duties
Tunnel Stabilization: Frostwardens fortify unstable tunnels using enchanted cerulium beams, magical runes, and reinforced stonework. A tunnel collapse due to over-mining can have a cost not just in the loss of a mine, but in lives. Frostwardens must consider the entire subterranean network when executing their duties. Is the value of a mine worth the risks involved? Should a crumbling tunnel be repaired or sealed off? Could a busy thoroughfare be widened without harming the area's integrity? These questions weight on their order every day. Disaster Response: Frostwardens are trained to rescue miners and salvage operations during cave-ins, avalanches, or glacier shifts. Ancestor Preservation: Due to their training with magical runes, Frostwardens oversee the crafting and placement of communal Runestones of Remembrance, ensuring the names of the fallen are not forgotten. Symbol of the Vigil: During the Frostwarden’s Vigil, Frostwardens wear ceremonial frostspider-silk cloaks adorned with blue cerulite brooches, symbolizing their role as both guardians and preservers of the past.
