Ellik
Covetous Death
Ellik receives no less service than the other gods of the Darlunar Pantheon despite his wicked nature. When someone passes from the mortal coil, it is believed that proper burial rites and supplication to Ellik must be performed. Only then is he placated and the deceased allowed to depart the world. Should one die unmourned and forgotten, then it is Ellik who takes them and adds them to his dark, suffocating kingdom.
It is believed that Ellik is himself the dark of the grave. In his greed and ambition, he lays claim on the lives of all mortals by default. Only by properly honoring the gods and living a virtuous life is one saved from his clutches. Essentially, one needs to earn the favor of a god willing to call their souls out from Ellik's grasp.
Funeral rites are designed to show him sincere respect so as to convince him to pass by and allow the fallen into a brighter afterlife. Regardless of the religious leanings of the fallen or the mourners, treating Ellik is a major component of all burial traditions.
Much of necromancy and the dark arts of commanding the undead invokes Ellik’ name. It is believed he finds the undead walking the world to be pleasing. It is said he can see through the "eyes" of all undead. Should one destroy such a monster, it is considered appropriate to apologize to Ellik, lest he take offense. Those who practice necromancy flirt with the idea of entering Ellik's realm willingly upon their own deaths. This is not necesarily a wholly negative outcome if one is able to impress the deity to gain his favor. In such case, one may find themselves as a lord within his benighted realm.
