Beastfolk

Products of the Third World, the beastfolk are descended from animals who, by design or by accident, consumed the blood of dragons and became uplifted into new forms, sapient beings who have a true will of their own. However, most were orphans of a sort, with no culture or guidance in those early days, and many could only rely on their instincts to survive. Especially during the ensuing Fourth World, many became twisted or enslaved by the demonic forces that came to rule Uskara in that time. Through the Fifth World, they were seen as barbarians, only barely better than beasts, by the demihuman civilizations taking root, a menace to be contained.   In truth, there are a dizzying array of various kinds of beastfolk, all with their own developing cultures in these modern times. The Sixth World has been truly a coming of age where many have come to be seen as peers, if not equals, of wider humanity. The kobolds, yuan-ti, and aven in particular have risen in ascendance, though primarily in places where humanity is weaker, such as Algoboa and Seotan, but most especially under the waves of the Farther Waters, where many varieties of beastfolk compete for supremacy, outshining even the merrow and triton kingdoms. Years of prejudice and misunderstanding however do not fade easily. In societies that still practice slavery (rarer with each passing century but still not completely gone), beastfolk are prized possessions and that association dies hard. The Beast Kingdoms, ruled by the oni, take that association as the foundation of their society.   Only the kobold ancestry is available to player characters at this time.
