Conjuration

Conjuration is the school of magic concerned with bringing things into being and moving them across distance. It governs the summoning of creatures, the creation of matter from raw energy, and the opening of pathways between one place and another. Where evocation releases power outward, conjuration shapes it into form. To study it is to learn how to call, contain, and direct what does not yet exist.   A conjurer begins by learning the laws of correspondence, the patterns that link all spaces within the weave. Every point in the world is connected by unseen threads of potential. By tracing and manipulating those threads, a skilled mage can draw something from another location or even from another plane. At its simplest, this art manifests as the instantaneous transport of objects or the calling of minor spirits to perform brief tasks. At its height, it can open permanent gateways between worlds or summon beings of immense strength bound to the caster’s will.   The school’s work divides into three primary practices. The first is summoning, the art of calling creatures or forces from elsewhere. These spells range from harmless familiars that aid their masters to powerful outsiders bound by complex circles and pacts. The second practice is creation, the formation of matter that did not exist before. Spells like create food and water or cloudkill transform raw magic into substance or vapor, giving temporary life to the intangible. The third practice is teleportation, the folding of space so that distance becomes meaningless. This includes both short-range spells such as misty step and great workings that bridge continents.   Conjuration demands a strong sense of focus and responsibility. Everything a conjurer calls or creates exists by their will and vanishes when that will fails. A lapse in concentration can release an uncontrolled creature or tear open a passage that refuses to close. For this reason, experienced practitioners approach their craft with restraint. The best conjurers understand that every summoning is a negotiation, whether it be with the laws of nature or with the summoned being itself.   The moral view of conjuration depends on its use. Some see it as a practical art of service, capable of providing food, shelter, and swift travel to those in need. Others regard it with suspicion, believing that drawing power or creatures from other realms risks upsetting the balance between worlds. Both opinions hold truth. The conjurer walks a line between creation and intrusion, and wisdom lies in knowing when to call and when to let the world remain as it is.   Among all magical disciplines, conjuration best reflects the idea that reality is fluid. It teaches that space is not a wall but a curtain, and that distance is only an illusion maintained by perspective. To master it is to reach beyond one’s own limits, to grasp the unseen connections that tie all places and beings together, and to bring forth what imagination alone cannot hold.
