Great Solar War
The Great Solar War (also known as the Third World War) Was a conflict on Earth and other locations in the Solar System. The primary combatants were the European Union of Nations, Russian Federation, United States of America, China, and the Argentine-Chile Union, along with their allies, and their holdings on Luna, and Mars.
The Conflict
Prelude
The Great Solar War was a long time coming. Continued conflict over colonial rights to portions of the Moon and Mars. Small conflicts between various groups were common, and the Great Solar War traces its origins to a conflict between Russian and European Colonists on one of Mars' moons.
Outcome
While starting with conflicts between colonies, eventually fighting spilled over to earth, and the use of heavy bombing, and finally thermonuclear weapons were used and most major governments were destroyed. The remnants of the old administrations folded their remaining resources into a joint venture to rebuild a better Earth.
Aftermath
The memory of the war is what lead to the creation of the Union of Earth and her Colonies which recognized the value of cooperation and the need for strong colonial bases.
