Defection of Jezzk

Disaster / Destruction

1100 AC

On this day in Ošgarde, Jezzk the Insane unleashed the power of his Shard and slew many of the residents of the city before raising them again as demonically possessed undead. He was slain only days later by the Purgers who stormed the city and razed Jezzk's stronghold to the ground.

Jezzk the insane was a well respected member of the Necromantic research community until one day, seemingly at random, Jezzk unleashed a deadly curse upon the denizens of Ošgarde. Nearly one hundred Ošgardians were killed and raised as demonically possessed undead. The revenants rampaged through the city causing dozens of deaths. The anarchy continued for three days until several squads of Purgers could be teleported into the city center to relieve the embattled and ill-equipped defenders. Several of the squads set to work clearing the undead, but two (including a certain young Aragog Whitehand Feorutsson) made their way to Jezzk's stronghold -- one of the Necromantic laboratories implanted into the city's central keep -- and forced their way inside, slaying Jezzk and nullifying his spells. In the aftermath of this event, scrutiny of the Necromantic Enclave increased tenfold and the survivors of the event, embittered by the failing of the Enclave to save them from foul magic, would go on to construct one the incredibly controversial and prohibitively expensive anti-magical "net" around their city so that no magic could be used in city limits again.
