Slate of Spades Inn & Casino
The place where dreams die and rise
The Slate of Spades Inn & Casino is by far the biggest attraction Keynsling City has to offer. Even though it has "inn" in the name, it's far more of a hotel. There's going to be something for everyone.
Purpose / Function
The Slate of Spades provides lodging, food, drink, and especially entertainment. There are plenty of games for risk-loving folks to gamble on. If a traveler is tired, they can pay for a relatively inexpensive room to stay the night. Food is always provided when someone purchases a room. If one person isn't a fan of gambling, they can also partake in the weekly performances that the Slate of Spades provides. Underneath the first floor is a massive performance venue.
Design
- Standard Rooms: Standard rooms are quaint yet comfortable. The rooms are 15ft x 15ft x 15ft large. The floor is made out of polished oak wood. The rooms have a single low-laying matress for sleeping and an nightstand next to it.
- Sterling Rooms: Sterling rooms are about the same size as the standard rooms but generally look far better. The floors are carpeted and the walls have proper wallpaper. The beds are also just generally higher in quality. These rooms also included a closet, a desk, and proper glass windows.
- Gilded Rooms: Gilded Rooms are very high in quality. There are only 10 of these rooms at the Slate of Spades. Each room is 20ft x 20ft large with the standard 15ft tall walls. The floors are covered with imported carpets from Elven settlements. The walls are wooden planks that have been polished and coated with lacquer for a smooth and shiny finish. There are two queen sized beds, a wardrobe, dwarven stone nightstands, and mirrors on the walls. As expected these rooms also have glass windows to give a nice view of the cityscape.
- Penthouse: At the rooftop area above where the gilded rooms are found, there is a set of double doors that leads to the most luxurious room: the Penthouse. The Penthouse is the largest purchasable room. There are 2 king sized beds made with materials that come straight from Stocanburg. The table in the room was hand-carved by dwarves. There are built-in heating crystals on the ceilings, a private bathing area, and a small bar with complimentary drinks.
Entries
The entries to the rooms are located within the halls of the floors above floor 1. Each room is locked and will require a key to enter.
Architecture
The Slate of Spades Inn is around 60ft tall with 4 floors above ground and 1 floor below. The building itself has grey stone bricks with ironwood support frames. Certain places on the wall have clear glass windows. The building is approximately around 31,000ft² at the base.
The first floor layout starts off with the receptionist desk in front of the main entrance. Gas lamps hang everywhere from the ceiling. The exchange counter is to the left of the reception desk. Behind them is a large area for gambling games. The left side of the building holds the food court with its many tables and the bar. Directly in the right-back of the building is the doorway to the bathhouse and spa.
The hotel rooms are divided into 3 separate floors. The first underground and second floors are for the Standard Rooms, the third floor is for the Sterling Rooms, and the fourth floor is for the Gilded Rooms. Sets of spiral staircase is used to ascend and descend the floors. The stairs can be found in the back of the first floor, behind the gaming zone. The stairwells themselves are quite spacious, with each floor containing tables with water kegs, ice buckets, and vending machines. The stairs can descend underground to the performance venue and the underground rooms.
History
The Slate of Spades began construction in 167. That's 3 years after Keynsling City was fully built. Construction lasted 2 years and required 21,000gp worth of materials and work. Soon enough in the year of 169, the Slate of Spades Inn & Casino was created and opened to the public. The local church denounced this creation, but didn't do any further action against it.
