Strumen Legionnaires
Formerly the Stromgarde Militia, the Legionnaires make up most of the military force of the Kingdom of Arathi - that is not to say its citizens are not well versed in militia combat themselves - Made up of three divisions within the military with their own respective ranks. The Cavalry, The Legion, and the Bannermen.
Composition
Manpower
- Stromic Legionnaire - 300's: Soldiers made-up of volunteers from refugees neighboring regions, Arathorian tribes-men and Militia-veterans from before the fall of Stromgarde.
- Stromic Cavalrymen - 30's: Specialized mounted units who train to ride Oringr Raptors, a special breed of raptors that take easily to domestication, but not so much to rear.
- Stromic Bannermen - 30: Soldiers of high-respect and honor, Bannermen serve as both skalds reciting tales of glory amidst combat for means of raising morale and intimidating opposing forces, and as extensions of Centurions.
Structure
Ten Legionnaires create a Battle-Band, and each battle band is led by a Centurion and accompanied by a Bannerman and occasionally an even number of Cavalrymen.
A Battle-Band's formation is triangular shaped, with the Centurion leading as the advancing point and the Legionnaires forming the rest of the triangle's body with the Bannerman instilling moral and battle cries from the middle most portion. Should a Centurion fall, the Bannerman assigned to the Battle-Band must take the place of the fallen Centurion and continue to lead the formation into combat. If Cavalrymen are present, they are never deployed in odd numbers, finding that their raptor mounts prefer to be in the company of each, growing aggressive if alone. The Cavalrymen are positioned laterally each side of the Legion's formation and serve as shock troopers, unnerving the opposing forces with their ferocious mounts. This Formation has been dubbed Grungr's Wedge.
Tactics
"Hit them hard, and keep digging your feet 'til you go straight through the line. Like a wedge striking against wood, without momentum - you'll lose before you even have the chance to clash." - Conan Haldorson, Elder-Prefect
