Feli Liberation Force

The Felidae Liberation Force, commonly shortened to the Liberation Force or just the FLF, is a military junta neighbouring the Neo-Furrarian Imperium and the United Terran Federation. It spans 5 star systems and has a population of 21.6 billion. Its capital and most populous colony is Naneko.

The roots of the Liberation Force span back to 12113, when the former Formosan Republic founded the Formosan Space Force as part of the Formosan Future Survivability Reform. With Formosa now capable of projecting its power into outer space, its military became a formidable entity in its own right though it rarely acted beyond what Formosan legislation permitted. Throughout the mid-122nd century, the space force was tasked with peacekeeping operations across Formosan space and by 12200, the military would swell to over 24 million active personnel with 68 spacefaring vessels.

During the next century, extensive interplanetary conflict would loosen Formosa’s grip over its own military force. On August 26th 12216, the Imperial exploration frigate ISS Ironclad was intercepted and destroyed. Frosty initial relations between the Republic and the Imperium led to a series of skirmishes which culminated in the Imperial invasion of Artemis and its annexure in 12253. Economic mishandling and bureaucratic barriers led to an ineffective military response. The military & civilian loss of faith in the incumbent Formosan leadership led the Liberation Force to initiate a coup d'etat the very next year. In 12254, Felidae Liberation Force launched an offensive to retake Artemis, marking the beginning of the Canid-Feli War.

The Feli Liberation Force is a developing economy that ranks ninth-largest by nominal GDP, with further growth inhibited by sanctions. Many trade restrictions predate the current conflict, as it is the largest exporter of controversial goods, including animal products and recreational drugs. Most of the economy is spurred by defense spending, with the fifth largest defense budget and the Feli Liberation Armed Force is the eighth largest military in the galaxy. It is a founding member of SOMIS , but has shied away from taking up membership status with other extranational organizations.

Discovery of crucibles which allowed both metal casting and melting of glass to create optics. This created an explosion of exploration as Felidae were able to navigate and arm themselves adequately against the dangerous wildlife of Naneko.

Explanation of how the former government functioned

Governmental capitulation, seizure of power and how the junta now runs it (i.e. effective martial law). <Shattered by the surprise attack initiated by the NFI, the government quickly capitulated, with anyone laying claim quickly assassinated in order to secure NFI claims. With no formal government, the FLF is operating under the rule of a military junta, headed by General Tabitha Straaken. While the governmental structure is strictly hierarchical in order to maintain order, the junta’s presence is often fleeting, mostly due to security reasons.>

Suffering from runaway inflation until the seizure of government. <The inflation of the Felidae Real has spiraled out of control as a result of the conflict, and is generally considered worthless outside of conflict-free core worlds. Foreign economists had previously plead to the previous government to halt the overprinting of the currency to no avail, until it finally collapsed in _ and the government overtaken in a military coup by the FLF. Since then the printing of the currency has been halted altogether, though the economic aftershocks are still felt across the entirety of the faction.>

Major exports are primarily animal products and recreational drugs. Formerly diversified exports including hydrocarbons and alloys have long since been halted to redivert such materials towards the war effort.

Language

Mau is only the de jure national language. It was artificially created based on an amalgam of the most popular languages in order to expedite learning. It purely exists for ease of communication between Feli and other species, and is rarely spoken amongst Feli themselves.

Religion

With a culture strongly tied to maritime tradition, it is of little surprise that Felidae religion is also closely related to the sea. Depending on region, many worship varying deities associated with water, fish and the ocean, with the most popular denomination being the Temple of the Sea God, worshipping a deity that bears striking resemblance to the human deity of Sedna. Perhaps unsurprisingly, worship becomes increasingly rarer in locations away from bodies of water, with interstellar colonies on arid planets such as Sekhmet and Ishtar boasting near 100% levels of secularism.

Architecture

Felin architecture has traditionally been sleek, aerodynamic designs to resist the high winds and tropical cyclones that often wrack the coastal areas of their home planet. This particular architectural design becomes increasingly rare as one travels further away from Naneko, with interstellar colony designs focusing more towards more utilitarian, modular, cost-effective (and somewhat brutalist) architecture. In cooler areas, especially in settlements away from the equator dwellings feature an abundance of windows, translucent concrete and other such features to permit as much natural light to enter and heat the home. This in coinciding with the massive importance of glass in the crucible era. Further expounded by the existence of religious buildings made almost entirely of reinforced, stained glass. Named cathedrals, bears no resemblence to medieval human cathedrals.

Cuisine

Due to Naneko’s large continental landmasses, inland areas were historically unsuitable for habitation due to the arid climate and inclement weather. As such, many Felin settlements dotted coastlines and, by extension, many communities saw fishing become a staple for feeding their people. Even in spite of the centuries of cultural changes and interstellar colonization, Felidae cuisine is strongly oriented towards seafood.
