Acra Coral
Basic Information
Anatomy
Acra Coral, like most corals, are a conjoined network of many individual polyps that appear to grow and exist as a single entity. Each individual polyp has its own set of organs and biological systems but the coral entity grows in a pattern that allows for nutrients to be passed along and shared between polyps as needed. Shared nutrient flow is governed by a chemical signalling process.
Genetics and Reproduction
When sufficient conditions are met, primarily nutrient reserves and available growing space, Acra Coral will seed new polyps to continue to propagate and expand the coral. New polyps require a stone or material that is porus enough to anchor itself to but also sturdy enough that it won't disintigrate as it grows.
Ecology and Habitats
Acra Coral are an aquatic species native to fresh water lakes on the Baetal homeworld of Phi'stik'aa. It is a detrivorous species that feeds on decaying organic matter and the waste byproducts of other species such that the coral acts as a natural purifying and filtering agent within its ecosystem. On Phi'stik'aa, Acra Coral lakes are known for their pristine water quality as the coral beds at the mouths of incoming streams and scattered throughout the body of water aggressively consume any impurities that they encounter.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
While the polyps have a rudimentary chemical communication system within the coral itself, an Acra Coral has very limited external senses.
