Tunsig

A young yuan-ti settlement on the ruins of the tortle village Yopa, Tunsig clings to the eastern edge of the Calames Jungle. Founded in 1135 AD, it is a place of trade, smuggling, and shifting power, where jungle vines and crumbling tortle stonework still peek between new yuan-ti construction.

Geography

Tunsig lies where the jungle meets the sea of tranquility, built on the overgrown ruins of Yopa. To the west, the dense Calames Jungle rises in a tangle of canopy and mist. To the east, a shallow bay provides the only natural harbor along this stretch of the coast. The town’s streets follow the uneven ground of the old tortle foundations.

Description

Tunsig is both new and old. Chezucore architecture rises on top of cracked tortle masonry. Jungle growth presses in from all sides, and vines snake across walls and rooftops. The streets are narrow, damp, and never fully lit, making it easy for smugglers and thieves to vanish into shadow.

Docks

The docks are the beating heart of Tunsig. They sprawl out into the shallow bay on creaking piers and half-finished wooden quays. Yuan-ti overseers tax every cargo officially brought ashore, but most trade happens through back channels. Hidden coves and false warehouses make smuggling easy, and coin flows quickest through the hands of thieves, fences, and pirates.   Sailors from gnome ships, jungle traders, and even Underdark merchants can be found here, though rarely in the open. At night, the docks shift into a dangerous tangle of shadows, where gangs fight for control of contraband and patrols look the other way if bribed.

History

Once known as Yopa, a small tortle village tucked into the eastern edge of the Calames Jungle on the Sea of tranquility, the settlement fell into ruin after its people were enslaved by the yuan-ti. The abandoned homes crumbled under vines and moss, forgotten in the jungle’s green hush.   1135 AD   the yuan-ti were forced into drastic change. With the death of Sseth and the disappearance of their tortle slaves, they could no longer rely on forced labor. Trade became their lifeline, and so they began building a coastal town in hopes of dealing with gnomish merchants. In the process, they rediscovered the ruins of Yopa. Claiming it as their own, they rebuilt upon its bones and renamed it Tunsig.   1136 AD Today, Tunsig is a raw, restless town. Its streets crawl with crime, smuggling, and illicit trades. The yuan-ti’s grip is unsteady, and the jungle always presses at the edges.

Adventure hook

Agents of the Dark Lanterns from Tana’s Empire have arrived in Tunsig with a plan: disrupt a passing yuan-ti envoy traveling south toward Lightfoot land. Their scheme involves smoke bombs enchanted with Tasha’s Hideous Laughter, meant to reduce the proud envoy and their retinue to a ridiculous spectacle.   The party is drawn into the plot, but not as allies—only as pawns. The spies fully intend to frame them for the attack, letting the yuan-ti’s wrath fall squarely on the adventurers’ heads.
