Culture
Clothes
Preferring to show off their physique, Trolls eschew garments that cover too much skin. In order to look more fearsome to their enemies, they adorn their bodies with warpaints created using mortars and pestles.
Rather than wedding rings, some trolls wear wedding nose-rings, such as Inv jewelry ring
Cannibalism
Cannibalism is a relatively common troll practice.
Last rites
The trolls mummify their deceased.
Religion
Trolls tend to worship the demonlord Tall Iss, as she granted them the gift of regeneration. Trols also worship the spirit, such as the
Animal Spirits when they hunt.
Music
The most dedicated of troll war-drummers allow themselves to be flayed alive in order to provide the hide for their precious instruments. While a troll's incredible natural regeneration allows one to survive such a grueling ordeal, it is a long and excruciating process that drives many mad with pain. It is said that if such a war drummer is slain while playing such an instrument, his spirit passes into it.
Language
Trolls have no language of their own, but speak
Giant and "trollspeak", a guttural mix of
Common and Giant.
Names
Trolls, both male and female, often have names with giant suffixes and/or prefixes, sometimes consisting entirely of both. They also do not normally have family names as seen by the majority of trolls lacking one, however, there are exceptions, of which some adopt the name of their tribe as their surname.
Titles
The following prefixes or suffixes are added to a troll's name to denote positions of honor or tribal status:
- fon = suffix, means “loner,” or someone who has deliberately absented himself from troll society and its obligations
- jin = suffix, means “leader” and refers to the tribal chief or elder
- Zul = prefix, roughly translates to “great” and can denote a master (person) or a location (city)
Diplomatie
Conflict
The grung actively hunt the trolls, driving them off their territories and taking over the settlements they had built.
History
After the troll where gifted the ability to regenerate and mutate by Tal Iss, the demonlord of mutation, many sought new places to call home. The Jogrum tribe attempted to escape as far away as they could from the giants that once cursed them, and ended up in the Beastland.
Adventuring in the Jade jungle, the trolls faced adversity when they encountered the Grung, a frog-like race inhabiting the same region.
The grung, displeased by the arrival of these new neighbors, drove the trolls away, forcibly taking over the settlements the trolls had built. This constrained the jungle trolls to a nomadic lifestyle even within the jungle. Despite their efforts to establish stable societies, the grung's hostility and territorial behavior forced them to keep moving in search of safer lands.
