Common

Common is a magical language that everyone on Pasaulis, and indeed throughout the World Axis, speaks. No one is forced to speak in Common, and many other languages exist throughout the Axis, but every creature capable of speech knows Common and can speak it.

One reason for other languages is that groups and cultures desire to maintain a method of communication, both spoken and written, that is unique or secret. Hence the existence of Druidic and Thieves' Cant, Sylvan and Elvish, and all the others.

History and Legend

As far as anyone can tell Common has always existed as a language. When the Elves first entered the material plane after the release of Cassia, and taught humans and the other races to speak it was with Common that they blessed them.

Their own tales about the language are that the Divine Raven, known as the Creator's messenger, blessed the elves with the tongue, so that they could communicate with other races. The Divine Raven, also known as the White Crow, is said to only speak the truth, a feature the deity did not infuse into the language, unfortunately.

Writing System

Writing where Common is concerned is a tricky concept. As with speaking, if the writer means to communicate in Common then the written material will be readable by everyone. Intent is the component of the magic that makes it work.

Geographical Distribution

As mentioned above Common is ubiquitous throughout Pasaulis and beyond.
