Yuvaruyn Uldhijaaq

Yuvaruyn Uldhijaaq is a sailor and captain in the Biinamii Navy, currently commanding the paddle steamer warship Gajaraqlin. Older than many of his peers, he sees his current position as his last chance at promotion and distinction.
 

History

Born in Biin as the eldest of twin brothers, Yuvaruyn's family has a long history of naval service, and it was always expected that he would follow in that tradition. Both he and his brother studied hard, becoming midshipmen in 12 Return (27 Years Ago) before being assigned to different ships.
  Known for his solitary nature, Yuvaruyn focused much of his efforts on his own betterment, striving for opportunities to demonstrate his talents. At least one captain in this period thought he was "too eager", delaying his ability to apply for promotion in hopes of correcting his attitude. His ascension to lieutenant in 20 Return came two years later than his brother, souring their relationship. The two failed to be reconciled before the latter's death in 24 Return.
  His time as a mere lieutenant was shorter than his time as midshipman, managing to be promoted in 27 Return for his role in the capture of two Xiy Kiiquldamii cruisers. He was given command of the refitted Godhaquyk, and he began to trawl the northern seas for pirates.
  While he saw some minor success captaining Godhaquyk, the ship's loss in a storm in 30 Return saw Yuvaruyn without command for two years, despite being acquitted at court-martial. He was eventually given the Unqanu and tasked with completely reshaping its crew with whoever was available in the capital, which ultimately led to him receiving Rixash Ajarayk as first lieutenant. The two became close friends, and took charge of the Unqanu to make it a warship of moderate if unremarkable success.
  Yuvaruyn's best chance of distinction came in 39 Return, when he was selected as the first captain of the newly built Gajaraqlin, a position he immediately accepted. While not in complete control of his crew, he was able to secure the position of first lieutenant for his friend Rixash, and the two assumed their roles on the 12th of Vengeance.
 

Social Ties

Yuvaruyn's family has a history of naval service dating back to Biin's independence from Xiy Kiiquldast, boasting many captains and even admirals. His mother was Commodore Ji'ash Ro Zhyambloh, and his father Captain Bwi'alash Uldhijaaq. His twin brother Va'ijult made the rank of lieutenant, and left a wife and two children behind with his death, neither of whom have yet joined the navy.
  His stubborn and bitter temperament has made him few lasting friends, with the only one of note being Lieutenant Rixash Ajarayk, who serves him aboard Gajaraqlin. It's widely understood that his marriage to Lavgi Ruvadzi is an arrangement of convenience and effort to continue the family line, with their lack of children exacerbating matters.
