Asta Saxa'utha

Asta Saxa'utha is a sailor and lieutenant in the Biinamii Navy, currently serving aboard the ice-breaking frigate Gajaraqlin. Considered a clever and tactical mind among fellow officers, many in the Navy expect her service aboard Gajaraqlin to lead to her own command in future.
 

History

Born in Biin as the second of two daughters, Asta was expected to follow in the family's naval footsteps from a young age. However, when it was realised that she had no innate capacity for magic, these plans were abandoned by her parents in favour of focusing entirely on her older sister's future success. Determined to prove them wrong, Asta sought instruction from local retired sailors and fishermen, gaining a practical education in navigation and seamanship that enabled her to become a midshipman in 29 Return (10 Years Ago), the same year as her sister.
  Unusually for a midshipman of her age and background, her first posting was to the Huzwiquld under Commodore Xiru Rufatun, who took a liking to her confidence and dedication. In the 5 years she spent on the Huzwiquld she was given multiple opportunities to prove her skills, being given command of several prize vessels.
  She was given an opportunity to pass her lieutenant's exam in 34 Return, and was transferred to the Dhiqan, the Biinamii navy's only steam-powered ship. Despite only being a packet ship used to deliver mail and freight, the nature of its technology saw it used as a training ground for 'promising' officers.
  When Biin later launched the steamship Gajaraqlin in 38 Return, Asta was quickly short-listed to be an officer once it was commissioned, reportedly at now-Admiral Xiru Rufatun's insistence. She assumed the position of 2nd Lieutenant on the 12th of Vengeance, 39 Return.
 

Social Ties

Asta is the descendant of Üükabwi-adhayo sailors to the third generation, with her grandmother having allegedly stowed away on a merchant vessel to reach Biin. Both her parents were in the Biinamii navy, though only reaching the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain. Her older sister, Shiri, currently serves as a Lieutenant aboard the Lledni Uynminn.
  She has a very significant patron within the navy, being a favourite of Admiral Xiru Rufatun after her prior service aboard the Huzwiquld. They have reportedly guaranteed both her subsequent assignments, and have high hopes for her in future.
