Vakanir Dwarves

The Vakan Mountains are the ancient home of a society of dwarves which have become known as the Vakanir dwarves. They are ancient cousins of the frost dwarves of the Frostspine Mountains. They were explorers who explored a mountain range nearby mountain range before the Sundering and eventually created a colony there. During the chaos of the Sundering, their mountain home and the lands surrounding it were severed from the mainland and were made into the island it is today.   Because of the island nature of their home, the Vakanir dwarves are, among all other dwarves, the most comfortable on the sea. When they aren’t mining and smithing in their mountain homes, they often can be found fishing along the coast or serving as mercenaries for the human Jarls. The Vakanir dwarves serve as fairly autonomous vassals of the High King of Jardersfell and their leader, called the Thane, has a vote on who becomes High King even though the Thane can’t become High King.
