Elves

Elves are a lithe and graceful people of ethereal beauty who are fond of nature and magic, music and poetry. They are one of the Elder Races who the first to inhabit the world. They were created by the goddess Saelethil Sylmaer and Nithenoel Keavaris weaving their pure arcane and nature magics together.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves are bipedal humanoids with two arms. They tend to be taller and leaner than Humans, Dwarves, and Halflings. Fine hair is the norm for elves, and they rarely have body or facial hair.

Biological Traits

The height of most elves ranges from 5 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 8 inches and the weight of most elves ranges from 120 pounds to 190 pounds. Elves can live anywhere between 700 and 1,000 years.   Elves can have hair of the normal varieties that humans have, but can also have colors like green and blue unlike humans.

Genetics and Reproduction

Elves reproduce via sexual reproduction and give birth to live young. They have a gestation period of 14 to 15 months.

Ecology and Habitats

Elves tends to live in forests, grasslands, plains, and coasts. There are some elves that live in the colder tundra and taiga regions of the far north.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elves are omnivores, but they tend towards vegetarian diets. Elves typically only raise livestock for the cheese and milk. Wines and alcohol that have long distilling times are often enjoyed by many elves.

Elves tend to have almond-shaped eyes, high cheekbones, and narrow faces. Elves are known for having long ears that end in a point.

Most elves live on the continent of Methas with a few living on the western edge of Kadrun.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Elves have Dark Vision and are capable of operating in areas with low or no light. Elves also very keen senses which makes them much more perceptive than many of the other races.

Naming Traditions

Elven naming traditions depends on their social station. Elven children in the nobility tend to have their names carefully chosen by the parents to best fit the role that the child is going to play in life, often making use of divination magic to find the perfect name.   Elves that are not part of the noble class name their children by whatever individual standards they wish.

Beauty Ideals

Physical beauty is very important to elves. Things such as graceful features, long and flowing hair, beautiful jewelry, and striking voices.

Gender Ideals

Both men and women are expected to learn how to fight and use magic. Different societies of elves have different gender expectations with some being more patriarchal and others being more matriarchal.

Courtship Ideals

Among the nobility, marriage is often more of a political factor than a romantic one. The marriage partners for elves of noble birth are chosen by the leader of their house and the reasons for the choices rarely include romantic compatibility.   For elves not among the nobility, they have more freedom in who their marriage partners are and generally make the decision based on romantic affection.

Relationship Ideals

The ideal relationship for high born elves is one that strengthens their political situation and social status as well as giving them strong allies.   Elves who are not of noble birth view relationships as a personal matter of love and compatibility.
