Mauray - HM First Contact

The Mauray Federation and HM make first contact.
  Although the HM would easily destroy almost all starships of other races due to extreme efficiency, they were not designed to answer magitech. The Mauray Federation destroyed the several HM frigates relatively easily due to this.
  However, the HM, now with more knowledge about this new exotic alien, began developing countermeasures. Though they would remain behind the Mauray Federation for a long time, it eventually developed a relatively powerful safeguard against magical effects.
  This way, the HM remained a significant threat to the Mauray Federation. They are faring better than the main timeline HF currently.
  The HM analyzed the effects of weaponized magitech on its armour. It was very shortly thereafter established and accepted that magitech did not follow the known laws of physics. The Mauray Federation quickly attracted the attention of the HM, which rapidly became interested in the properties of magitech and hopefully use it themselves.
