Udawnis System
Star system now owned by the Sulethis Republic in the Retinus Galaxy.
The Udawnis System is most notable for being the origin system of N.T.S. Dawn, making this system technically the Tranal Nomads home system. The TN still visits the Udawnis system for historical and cultural reasons, but they allowed the SR to officially own it as part of a deal with that faction.
The Udawnis star is a large, powerful class F star. The system has not developed any life other than that on N.T.S. Dawn. The system has a number of planets mostly comprised of rock, as well as several gas giants. Both have been exploited by the TN for resources and hydrogen fuel respectively, as well as the many dwarf planets orbiting the system at extremely large radii.
planet 1 - lava planet - Udawnis I is largely covered in lava. Like most lava planets, it contains a large amount of useful ores which the TN initially extracted materials from. After filtering the lava into its various useful products and useless products, extracted metal could be very easily refined using the ambient planetary temperature. This was risky though, and some lava extraction structures were destroyed in some natural disasters such as earthquakes. The TN lacked this technology at the time because of their purely space origins but Udawnis I would allow them to gain that technology. planet 2 - toxic planet - Udawnis II was barely touched during the pre-FTL era of the TN. This planets very hot, toxic and thick atmosphere made it a subject of scientific experimentation but was costly to mount a surface exploration on, let alone extracting materials from it. The atmosphere contained some useful materials like sulphur but these operations were often short lived. planet 3 - gas giant - due to the higher temperature of Udawnis III compared to Udawnis V, this gas giant would be easier to extract material from and would also be closer (as planetary orbits tend to increase in a roughly exponential way as the planet gets further from the star). Udawnis III was mined first, but was also the site of a number of failed gas giant exploitation projects. These mostly exploded or crashed into various objects, but the wreckages would have been crushed by the gas giant as they fell into the deep gas ocean below. planet 4 - barren planet - This planet has a supply of fissile materials such as urainum and thorium, useful for some types of primitive fission reactors. The pre - FTL TN extracted much of this material before they developed highly advanced fusion reactors, but they have abandoned this planet as fission reactors began to be replaced with fusion reactors. Now, Udawnis IV is owned by the SR, much like the other planets of the system, who exploit this planet and sometimes extract material from the core. N.T.S. Dawn planet 5 - barren planet planet 6 - gas giant asteroid belt - The Great Udawnis Asteroid Belt is a massive asteroid belt which was one of the easiest, if not the easiest, place to extract materials from other than scrapping parts of their own ship, N.T.S. Dawn. As such, it was the site of most of the TN resource extraction efforts for much of their pre-FTL era. Later, when this FTL technology was developed, they were largely abandoned until the Dawn returned.
