Submerged Monolith

The Submerged Monolith is one of the tallest buildings in Taidak, standing at about 800 m in height. It is easily visible for a massive distance around it because of the light it emits which penetrates the otherwise very dark depths of the deep water around it.

The Submerged Monolith is large enough to house hundreds of tourists or other visitors and is located on one of the South most districts of the city. It is not visible from the surface but it does provide a famous view of the entire city from it's viewing decks and much of the building is comprised of extremely thick layers of an advanced glass - it would take an immense force to break, and if it does, the walls have also been made thick and the building would be able to make repairs before it is entirely destroyed.

The interior is mostly dry, allowing land based species to visit but there are some sections with water filled rooms allowing Water Suons to swim or even live inside. As one of the most famous buildings in the city, it can be quite expensive to rent out but the view it provides is immense. For the lowest 240 floors, the building resembles a typical huge tower of glass that goes straight up. After that, it takes up it's own design and turns into a huge pole with a large number of rings of various size. Some of these rings are actually viewing platforms and might be larger than it's base. The highest floors were used for communications equipment, but with the introduction of Quantum Entanglement Communicator QEC technology this has been made obsolete, so now these areas are used for more viewings areas, megafauna predator detection and projecting images into the nearby dark water for the occasional celebration which might happen. These hologram projections are particularly spectacular, against the dark background.

The building has a number of very fast elevator shafts. Due to the extreme size of the building, a regular elevator would climb up the structure far too slowly so instead it uses a very fast one that accelerates for a long time up to it's desired velocity. There is only one elevator where those standing inside can view the outside world via some large windows. They can reach a maximum speed of about 100 km/h to reach the top within a reasonable time. A large number of redundancies are added in case some systems fail.

Because of advances in technology, the modern Hyperion Federation could build much larger structures, but the extreme water pressure makes it cheaper to build such large structures on land. This way, they do not have to deliver and protect a comparatively much thinner atmosphere in the structure.
