Starchaser Ruin

A ruin of some unknown ancient structure located on the exterior surface of Green II.

While probably not archaeotech, the Starchaser Ruin still has a lot of interest to the Hyperion Federation due to its immense size and possible insight on the history of the previous occupants. It can be easily seen from orbit and is known to impact the nearby weather patterns significantly enough that it can almost entirely isolate the weather patterns from the areas nearby. For example, the wind cannot easily climb over it, and to go around it the wind must travel a significant distance due to the wreckage's length. Strangely, other than the several smaller wreckages near it which were probably components of the Starchaser, there are no ancient structures or ruins near the Starchaser, indicating that nothing was likely built near it, even after it was destroyed.

Although its initial function was not known, the wreckage was simply named as the Starchaser because it resembles a very large telescope. It is not likely to be a telescope in reality though.

Many scientists have entered the wreckage in attempts to find out what happened to it and any other information about the previous civilization that might be useful. However, it remains off limits to the general public because of its age and very dangerous nature. Because it is so old, it is in poor condition and is very rusty. Some parts of the structure are slippery, and others are sharp. The wind can enter some parts of the structure which can present another hazard. Many people attempting to study have been injured, though none have been killed yet. Some parts have been known to collapse with scientists nearby to observe. However, some sections of the ruin have been cleaned to a safe state allowing the public to enter certain safe areas.

The green sparks which sometimes happen all over the planet (read Green II) sometimes also strike the Starchaser. The energies can radiate through the structure for short periods of time, making the metal give off a soft green glow for a short time. The exact reason why this phenomenon happens is still not known, but the metal that the structure is made from appears to harvest energy from the small energy discharges. It does not seem able to use the energy for anything though because of how little energy it receives. Perhaps it is a particularly green type of plasma that this civilization used to power their technology, from the outside, using this star? Their technological progression is not known and there are theories of it being both more and less advanced than that of normal HF technology.
