Species 10647 Lerthol Hover Tank

A large, tank-like purposed organism used by the various powers on Lerthol, the lava planet of the Vleno System.

This tank features a unique method of mobility, by creating a high pressure bubble of air below it, the organism can hover above the ground and not touch it. This gives several advantages such as reducing the transferal of heat to the tank, allowing it to cross more unstable terrain (as it spreads all of its weight across a much wider radius) and even hovering above pools of lava by further dispersing its weight onto an even larger area (though no other tanks can operate in a significant radius around it because of the pressure). As such, its mobility is nearly unmatched by another purposed organism of its weight class. This does make it quite loud though, so it would be heard from longer ranges and can harm the morale of nearby friendly forces.

As a light tank, it would perform more reconnaissance duties and similar tasks more often than other tank designs, while allowing recon forces to take a bit of fire, even delivering its own tank grade firepower. To save on weight, its armour is quite thin so the tank's own self preservation instinct would be one of its strongest layers of protection.

Its main armament comes in the form of a powerful railgun-like organ. This 80mm cannon can fire shells at very high velocity, making use of many, highly advanced electrocytes (cells that can discharge electricity) to generate an immense electrical current through the shell as it travels through its rails. This gives it a very high power for a biologically powered weapon. The shell casing is comprised of metal, as is the rail. Ammunition is created in an organ close to the breach of the main armament, and high power gunpowder is formed through an energy intensive biochemical process.

Following the calamity of the Vleno System and the collapse of Harkas civilization, this species, too, were forced to fight for survival. Like every other species, they had to become another part of the ecosystem, as they no longer had a food source from the harki who purposed them. Their weapons have evolved to fire smaller shells at higher rates of fire, and their 'mouths' and entire digestive systems were redesigned so that they could eat and digest solid matter. (Initially, they had no stomachs and they would be fed entirely by broken down liquids that the harki would pump into their bodies to feed them). The need to fire larger shells has somewhat been reduced as their main weapons have turned into a way for them to hunt. Some subspecies might have evolved larger weapons instead for protection against predators.

The vehicle's brain is located near the central bottom, where it is very well protected within its own armoured compartment. The risk of mines is reduced as it scans the ground below it, potentially detecting mines. Its stomach is slightly behind its mouth, so it has a fairly short esophagus. Its hover system is unified with its respiratory tract. By polarising air particles that travel through its respiratory tract, air becomes charged. From there, it can be manipulated in an electric field set up by several organs at the bottom of the tank, keeping air constrained in the bubble under it. This allows it to disperse its weight across a wide area. This method consumes a lot of energy as its multiple lungs have to compress air to allow air to continue to flow and supply the tank with oxygenated blood. As Lerthol is a lava planet, the plants have a lot of energy to grow with so the planet has a lot of life which the creature can feed on, though it would have a fast metabolism rate. They are quite notable in being able to heal quite fast as well.
