Prototype Versions of the Zar - Class Destroyer
Despite the current success of the Zar - Class Destroyer class of UAC bioships, a large number of prototypes had to be made in order to bring the ship to such a high standard.
Most bioship prototypes have no name, or a code name, depending on the year it was produced in. The first prototypes for the Zar - class came in shortly after the UAC joined the Hyperion Federation, the latter of which has given them a lot of inspiration and ideas to create their own antimatter powered spaceships. However, prototype purposed organisms are known to go through a lot of pain and suffering through its short life and eventually die, though teaching engineers valuable lessons on the path to optimisation. They can have any manner of biological problems, such as its immune system attacking itself or absolutely nothing, its nerves being constructed in an incorrect manner, dysfunctional organs, broken skin and even starvation, especially if its antimatter annihilation organs are not functional. This pain is very easily felt to any Harki who may be controlling it. There was even one prototype that almost completely digested itself. However, as these lessons came through, better bioships were made over time which allowed their creatures to survive more easily and giving time for the crew to know their bioships. Engineers will cross reference notes in order to reduce the number of bioship prototypes they have to make. Some earlier prototype bioships also can spread infection.
This very painful practice is often protested by many, but there is simply no other way to construct effective, optimised bioships. Though now these tests can be conducted in a Virtual Universe, and are usually done in this way, this technology was not available to the harkas until the HF could entirely map out the harkas brain, which takes a long time even for the most advanced technology and the highest standard of bioengineers, because organic brains of sentient beings are extremely complex.
The crew also often like to make friends with their bioships, so this rapid prototyping is one common position for recruits, the experienced soldiers want to remain on their bioships long with the crew.
