Lorgenais System

Star system in the Carina galaxy, famous for being one of the first star systems where the phenomena of the M. Faragrah microbes were seen.

Long ago, from before the Hyperion Federation first arrived on Carina, the Phelke Commonwealth was still in the early stages of its space age, exploring several star systems near the Aurigae System. One of those was the Lorgenais system.

The Commonwealth had to send a number of ships there, because the first several attempts never returned to Zanrilles. At the time, they did not have superluminal communications technologies other than courier ships so they were unable to receive messages from the lost ships. Eventually, they deployed a larger group to this system to study it. This time, only 1 starship returned but it has the required information: the Lorgenais system was filled with electricity and a large amount of electric strikes has disabled the systems of the other ships. The surviving ship returned only because it was able to escape quickly enough. They soon launched other ships to the system to test this. They had Faraday cages, and if they returned then the completely unlogical electricity strikes probably existed.

Surely enough, several years later they have returned to the homeworld. By this point, it was realised that all the lost ships could not be recovered because by then the systems would have long decayed to uselessness, and the crews of each ship, dead. They launched investigations into the cause of the electricity but the true cause was not known until thousands of years later where the HF has made contact with the phelke, and have been able to compare notes significantly. They only had fairly few theories, none of which could explain all the properties of the lightning. Some have suspected that they were caused by the systems solar wind, using dust particles as a medium to propagate electricity through. Others thought that some precursor faction might have engineered this system very precisely in order to allow this to happen. The truth was that it was caused by natural Faraguy microbes.

There is now a significant memorial in the system. As the Very early phelke documented every space travel carefully, they were able to identify the names of those who were lost and they would be named in the memorials for eternity.
