Kenarus Day

Kenarus Day is one of many public holidays of some Hyperion Federation nations dedicated to the remembrance of the Kenarus galaxy, which was annihilated during the Hyperquasar Annihilator War.

The destruction of the Kenarus galaxy was a crippling blow to the hyperionites, as the galaxy contained many species homeworlds and a significant portion of the HF industry. For example, the many Dyson Spheres that once energised HF equipment all over the galaxy are now completely obliterated, often having turned to merely dust. As one of the the first galaxies destroyed by the weapon, the HF was largely unprepared for its destruction and began immediately upgrading Paragon with a new structure called a stellar shield which would prevent the Cypher Hyperquasar Annihilator from destroying Odyros. Other galaxy core systems did not have megastructures and as such they could not easily build stellar shields around other galaxies. The HF moved fractions of its population to Paragon to reduce the damage causable by the Hyperquasar Annihilator. 

It is hard for me to estimate exactly how many would have died in the event, especially since Kenarus is far larger than the Milky Way (see the Cluster Stellar Conundrum), but the death toll would certainly be immense. Some species might have become quite close to extinction, so now the HF ensures to keep members of every species in every galaxy, especially on the megastructure of Paragon.

Kenarus Day is thus not a day of celebration but a day of memorial, though the HF is known to have many such dates already. However it is often celebrated on different days depending on which nation one visits because all the homeworlds for the various species would have recorded the disaster happening on different dates, each planet with their own calendar. In some star nations, the day is more frequent than in other nations so if one wants to experience this holiday many times they could theoretically travel between nations constantly, as one Kenarus day is ending to arrive at another nation where Kenarus day is soon to begin. This way, it is possible to experience Kenarus day roughly once every 4 days on average. There have been suggestions in many nations to unify the date across the entire HF so that every nation experiences it at the same time and with the same frequency, but this has never come very far mostly due to the individual nations having a relative inability to enact decisions like that.

Kenarus was not the only HF galaxy destroyed in the war. In another firing of the Hyperquasar Annihilator, the CD has also obliterated the Aurina Galaxy. This ended in slightly less disaster as the HF was far better prepared following the Kenarus incident. Many other galaxies of other factions were destroyed as well in the war, such as Virnosus (HM), Psi Virsus (HM), Blue (SR), Tanalaris (SR), and many others (see the Fortrais Galaxy Cluster). Many of the other target nations also celebrate similar days for their own galaxies lost, and there would also be an Aurina day for the HF.
