Endarian

The primary species of the Endarian Suns.

They can take up a huge number of forms and their homeworld is on the mostly forest planet of Narago. The conditions here are such that it is difficult to establish a civilization without the individual population's bodies being able to adapt to the job they are tasked with doing. As such, the endarians have evolved to have an incredibly complex genome that they can control which genes are active and which are inactive. With a faster cell growth process coming as a necessity along with this ability, they can modify their own bodies on demand over the course of several years, usually adapting to whatever job they are assigned to.

Due to the existence of strange predators on the planet, a civilization would have to master its own self defence in order to exist meaningfully, and normally it is difficult for endarians to fight off predators much larger than themselves. The first few million years of endarian existance have been filled with failed attempts to form a successful civilization, which is important enough to have driven endarian evolution. After one strain has gained the ability to synthesize genes through eating other creatures, the disadvantage started to become much smaller as they developed this ability. Slowly, they began to fight off the predators, the endarians able to grow into larger forms now. 

They have also gained many other perks which have allowed this civilization to grow very fast. Each tribe initially spanned much further across their planet than that of any 'normal' iron age civilization, so there were relatively few countries that have managed to form by their industrial age. Technology progressed rapidly, and they managed to leave their home planet for the first time in the span of only several generations since the iron age. Several more generations passed, and they eventualy gained the ability to travel faster than the speed of light. One of the first factions they came into contact witih was the Zikrat Scientific Citizenry, which they have managed to form an alliance with. Now these 2 factions sometimes share the details of their history and culture with each other, and will both come to the others aid if one is attacked.

It is difficult to describe their biological processes because they can take up many forms. The initial form of their species had a mostly humanoid body shape due to its versatility, with 2 arms and hands, 2 legs and so on. They have even gained the ability to reproduce in a huge variety of ways as they have eat this point eaten part of every species on their home planet which allows them to take any aspects from them they want. They can even undergo mitosis if they set their bodies up correctly. Because of this, the endarians are one of the most variable species in Fortrais, with a much more versatile genome than Suons and varying more than Freelancer Starships. Some endarians might not even have digestive systems.
