Compact Hypermatter Collider CHC

Type of highly energy intensive particle colliders designed to harvest Hypermatter in a much more compact way that does not require large megastructures such as ring worlds or Dyson Spheres to function.

Compact Hypermatter Colliders (or CHCs) are an emerging technology of the Hyperion Federation. As energy generators become more and more powerful, CHCs start to become more viable, though they are still far from overtaking traditional, massive hypermatter particle colliders.

Though far more compact than traditional particle colliders used to create hypermatter, CHCs are still very large and can span multiple hundred kilometers in radius. It is often thought, though, that this technology will be reduced in size (made more compact) as it develops, allowing starships like the Cataclysm - Class Worldship to fabricate hypermatter at an extreme expense of energy.

However, a number of problems remain. Firstly, despite being antimatter-fueled, most HF generators are not powerful enough to power a CHC, so it is often more practical to fabricate hypermatter in immense, traditional particle colliders. Secondly, they are still largely energy inefficient as a lot of its energy is spent on ensuring its structural integrity is not compromised during hypermatter fabrication. This can create a lot of heat. They can also produce a very loud sound that would damage the hearing ability of most organics, though it is known to sound cool. Many are convinced that these problems can be fixed in the near future, as research is already being put into the next level of high-energy technology, the Φ High-Energy Technology tier, a substantial improvement from the current λ High-Energy Technology. The Φ type of antimatter annihilation generator annihilates neutron QCD matter and antineutron QCD matter in a very powerful process, though the antimatter fuel would likely have to be generated on large megastructures.

It is commonly thought that these types of particle colliders could eventually make Hypermatter much less expensive to field, and allow for mobile hypermatter sources. Some have even suggested turning it into a weapon, as the conditions that hypermatter forms under are so extreme that all known physics break down, which makes it an extremely dangerous area to be near, likely tearing even the largest ships in half and even heavily crippling Planetcraft. All nearby matter that is not protected with extremely powerful magnetic fields will be immediately sublimated, causing a very large explosion which could even cause other ships in its formation to catch fire if they were too close. This explosion is coupled with that of the near-instantaneous decay of the hypermatter particles. Currently, none of these have been built and it is entirely theoretical for now.

(This is not to be confused for HACs, which fire hypermatter particles at the target. This concept weapon would create hypermatter next to the enemy armour and then let it decay, which is probably much harder to achieve.)

Despite these extreme ramifications, the technology has not been banned or restricted by the Hyperion Ethics Committee, though they might ban the weaponised CHCs for their sheer danger.
