The Ashen Maw rides at night. Looking for lost or banished souls to add to their collection, torture, or worse, the Ashen Maw primarily peruses the land at night.
The Scourge is connected to the land. Staying in one place for too long is bound to attract The Scourge. It is unknown whether he smells his prey, or maybe over centuries of desecrating the land, He has become able to communicate with the dunes themselves, but he always knows. Alone is safe from the Scourge, groups are safe from the Ashen Maw. The Scourge will not go out of his way to track lone figures, but that makes one easy pickings for the Ashen Maw.
