Water Lion's Wake

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Water Lion’s Wake is a drifting pocket-sea that trails the currents of Aquallor like a playful cub shadowing its parent. It slips in and out of the greater realm on a long, tidal breath: at times a bright carousel of reefs and laughter where dolphins race the spray and music carries farther than wind; at others a hushed cathedral of glassy depths when the Water Lion falls into melancholy and even oars dare not splash. Pearls, wreck-treasures arranged into gardens, and soft-lit domes of air mark its paths; sharks do not cross its borders, and those who come with cruel intent find the water heavy against their limbs.

Geography

Water Lion’s Wake drifts like a great current nested inside Aquallor, a shifting demiplane that moves with the moods of its patron. Sailors say it is less a place and more a wandering tide, and that one does not find the Wake so much as be carried into it when Water Lion chooses.
Air Harbors
Clear-water domes hang from the sea’s ceiling—little skies turned upside down where sky-galleys can dock. Their floors are rippled glass that keeps the memory of footsteps as shy glows for a night.

Notable Locations

The Silver Shoals
At its heart lie silver-sand banks glowing with soft light, forming shallow waters where dolphins play and weary travelers can rest. Pearls rise naturally from the sands here, humming faint notes of music when held to the ear.
The Melancholy Deep
A trench of blue shadow lies at the Wake’s far edge, quiet and unnervingly still. When Water Lion falls into sorrow, the trench expands, and tears of divine grief rise as glowing droplets. Those who drink them are healed of wounds but inherit fleeting dreams of Water Lion’s loss.
The Tideglass Reefs
Coral formations rise like cathedrals of crystal, their walls perfectly reflective. They echo songs and prayers for miles, though in times of anger they distort voices into a mournful roar.
The Lion’s Path
A warm current that circles the Wake, swift as a migrating leviathan. Travelers who swim or sail with it can cross the demiplane in minutes, but those who resist find themselves spun endlessly until they surrender their haste.
The Ebbing Gardens
Patches of kelp and anemone forests where sea elves and azata dwell in quiet community. These gardens glow in rhythmic pulses, as if breathing in unison with Water Lion himself.
The Pearl Cavern
A hidden grotto deep in the Wake where the largest memory-pearls form. These pearls hold fragments of ancient songs, stories of lost companions, and sometimes Water Lion’s own unspoken griefs. Few are permitted entry, and even fewer can bear the weight of what the pearls reveal.

Wayfarer Advice

Charts are welcome but not required. You can steer by the feel of the Lion’s Track on your palms, by the taste of warm Whisper Vents, by the bite-sweet scent of the Tearfall Chain, or by watching how your shadow behaves on the glass fans, straight for truth, wavering for doubt. Names spoken clearly at the Wreck-Gardens keep routes short; names withheld lengthen every path until remembrance is made.
The Hunting Surge
A rolling swell that circles the outer edges of the Wake, always in motion. Sharks and hostile predators are drawn here — only to be driven back, again and again, by Water Lion’s fury. The surge is both barrier and battlefield, a living ward that keeps the Wake safe.

Access

Elavandor’s Doors
Paired shell-arches in the Coral Courts open into the Wake whenever a rescuer offers a true tale and a freely given pearl; step through, and the water gentles like a hand on a shoulder.
Parliament Moorings
The Pearl Parliament’s barges keep a courtesy berth “for the Lion", and the Wake often sidles close so sea-kings and chart-singers can meet halfway.
Feather–Spray Seam
High above, Syranita's wind-lanes kiss the water; a willing aarakocran or djinni can trim the seam so swimmers and sky-ships share the same doorway.
Cathedral Sounding
When hymns in Old Pelagic roll from the Cathedral of Waves, the Wake answers with a soft under-note; that is the best time to cross its border, oaths ride true on the harmony.

Inhabitants

Dolphins are the loudest citizens and the gentlest ushers. Sea Elves, delphions, and honest corsairs tend the gardens and keep the lanes open. Shoals of silver fry sketch cursive in the shade; manatees graze the rope-vines; orcas patrol like black commas at the margins. Sharks do not enter, when they test the border, the Lion’s Roar rolls through the water and their shadows go elsewhere.

Localized Phenomena

Water Lion’s Wake is a place that hears before it sees: kelp rattles like soft rain, glass fans chime, and the Chord Caves hum when crowds gather. Sunlight arrives in broad, buttery sheets that scatter into coin-bright flecks over the basins; after dark the gardens glow with slow bioluminescence, rope-flowers, pearl spirals, and coral mouths breathing sleep-light into the lanes.   Additional Phenomena:
High Heart
In playful seasons the water leaps; Play-Surges lift boats and bodies, music carries far, and even heavy hearts bob to the surface.
The Quiet
When sorrow settles, the Tearfall Chain grows still and voices thin to whispers near the basins; the demiplane’s edge blurs into Elavandor like dusk into night, and travelers pass gently or not at all.
Trait Type
Description
Gravity Predominantly buoyant and water-native; within Air Harbors, gravity is gentle and downward; swimmers sense “down” as the nearest seafloor or reef.
Time Normal.
Shape & Size A finite, drifting pocket-sea tethered to Aquallor; borders blur into the parent realm like tide over sand and may widen or narrow with the Water Lion’s mood.
Morphic Traits Highly morphic to music, vow, and emotion: reefs rearrange into cloisters for parley, wreck-gardens reframe themselves for remembrance, and currents answer song more than oar..
Elemental Energy Water-dominant.
Alignment Neutral Good.
Magic Water, healing, protection, movement, and music-bound effects are enhanced. While, coercion, terror, and slavery magics are impeded; summons that would call sharks fail or turn away; dream and remembrance effects are unusually vivid near the Pearl Looms and Basins.
