Vampire
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
There's something so pure about a vampire's evil, so perfect in its utter corruption... It'll tear at your throat like a ravenous beast, then smile at your companions as it dabs its blood-soaked lips with a silk napkin.Vampires are a type of hematophagous undead that reproduce by transmitting Vampirism.
Basic Information
Anatomy
For the most part, a vampire retains the appearance they had in life. The main differences are their pale skin tone and sharp, feral features, giving them a predatory aspect. Whatever their eye color was in life, after transformation, a vampire’s eyes change to a red color, reminiscent of albino mammalians. Their hands end in sharp, glassy claws.
Notably, vampires possess retractable, sharp, monstrous canines, used to pierce a victims' flesh. When vampires are well-fed, their undead bodies' decomposition halts and is even reversed. A recently-fed vampire has a more pinkish skin color, staving pale complexion and kick-starting the circulatory system temporarily.
They cast no shadows, have no reflections in mirrors, and are able to move in complete silence. Vampires are exceptionally and deceptively strong; there are documented examples of vampires pushing boulders, effortlessly tearing doors off their hinges, or gracefully wielding heavy weapons.
Some sages speculate that vampires retain their soul after turning, with an enlarged portion of their genius; this enlargement is commonly equated with a tumorous growth.
Genetics and Reproduction
Vampires reproduce via spawning, and are considered the prime example of undead spawning. A victim of the vampire might reanimate as a vampire spawn, which shares some of a vampire’s qualities and strength, while being completely subservient to the vampire who created them.
A vampire spawn may become a true vampire should they imbibe their creator’s blood.
