Session 114 - Fighting the Soulcatcher of Felkenhertz
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
General Summary
After Remus unleashed a fireball, annihilating the remaining enemies — along with the vast treasure hoard that was in the room — Friedrich, Roger Lavgod, and the Paladin who had come as reinforcements returned from the Shadow Plane to rejoin the party.
They came back tinted in shades of gray, and Avaras quickly realized there were only two options: either it was a side effect of staying too long in the Shadow Plane… or these were their shadow doubles. He quietly shared this theory with Remus through telepathy, and Remus began testing it.
He asked Roger a question about his “horse,” Greg — to which Roger immediately threatened to stab him if he ever called Greg a horse again as he was a Hippogriff. Based on Roger’s hostile reaction, the party narrowed the possibilities: either he was a shadow duplicate… or he simply really hated when people called Greg a horse.
The group decided to open the secret door Avaras had found earlier. Roger, the so called "rogue" of the party tried and failed to open it — so Avaras, of course, stepped in and broke it open himself. Behind it, they found a long staircase descending into darkness. The party decided to leave it for now and explore other areas first.
Working together, Remus and Avaras managed to open the vault that the leech (another word for dampir) had mentioned. Inside, they discovered ten coffins — clearly where Vampires rested. They hunted down and destroyed seven vampires and collected a large amount of treasure from their coffins.
Among the loot was a piece of enchanted fabric that blocks light — the very one Remus had been searching for. He practically melted with joy when he finally got his hands on it.
The group also discovered another door at the far end of the chamber. Roger managed to disarm the magical trap and open it. Inside, they found more coffins — and, disturbingly, several people in hanging cages, suspended from the ceiling, half-dead and clearly serving as blood supplies for the vampires.
Avaras then noticed an invisible presence in the room. The moment he saw what it was, he froze in shock — a Thanadaemon . The daemon immediately attacked, and battle erupted.
During the fight, the enemy summoned reinforcements: two vampires and two Hydrodaemons. It also shattered the soul gem that contained, among others, Max Atlas's soul, and tried to use it against the party.
Henry of House Doril managed to disarm the Thanadaemon from his quarterstaff but was knocked down and assaulted by the two vampires.
Roger, with support from Avaras, landed several devastating sneak attacks.
Avaras cast Glitterdust to reveal the daemon’s form, distracted it using mage hand, and followed up with summoned spectral blades and a sneak attack of his own.
Remus, cast a spell hurling one of the Hydrodaemons into a spiked pit and dragged the Thanadaemon’s staff toward himself with a mage hand.
Friedrich attempted to cast a spell that fizzled but stayed close to Avaras and Remus, providing protection as the battle raged on.
