Plenipotentiary of Ashmedai

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
A Plenipotentiary of Ashmedai is a powerful devil that serves the supreme ruler of the Nine Hells as his delegate in any of the Outer or Material planes.

Duties

Each plenipotentiary carries the legal and metaphysical right to command lesser devils, wage limited wars, and even forge pacts in Ashmedai’s name. Their presence is best described as an extension of Ashmedai. Much like their liege, they are composed and soft-spoken, yet radiate an overwhelming oppressive authority and reek of evil. It is said that even the hebdagaios tread carefully in the presence of those who are allowed to invoke Ashmedai's seal.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The plenipotentiaries are bestowed with a unique horn that grows from a golden crown lodged into their forehead, which allows them to invoke Ashmedai’s seal. From this horn they may conjure a quill with which they write contracts. The crown serves as a vessel for Ashmedai’s will and authority, and grants their liege access to everything the plenipotentiary senses and thinks; should a treachery occur, the crown buries itself deeper into the devil’s head, consuming their power and turning them into lemures.

Cultural Significance

Within the infernal order, the plenipotentiaries stand apart from the conventional chain of command, their authority superseding that of all but Ashmedai himself; in principal, even archdevils must defer when a plenipotentiary acts under seal, though in practice, this is not the case.
