Hammergrim

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Hammergrim is a chain of duergar strongholds bored deep into Thuldanin's hollow war-cubes, that are part refinery, part redoubt, and wholly devoted to the creed that adversity is the only honest forge. Gray light, gray stone, gray cloth; the palette is austere, but the craft is exquisite. Here, smith-priests reclaim calcifying engines and siege-rubble from the scrap horizons and smelt them back into purpose before the layer turns them to stone.

Geography

Miles of shafted corridors open into vaults the size of cathedrals, studded with gantries and crucibles. The ambient petrification field of Thuldanin is countered by runed flues and everburning furnaces that hold salvage in a “soft set” long enough to work. There are also some, rumored tunnels, where old miners swear that ancient, worm-bored passages lace the deepest strata as a proof that something once burrowed through the foundations long before the duergar arrived. In addition, there are Ore-Ways, which are enchanted tramlines move slag-barges between blocks when collisions briefly align their faces.

Inhabitants

Souls who bend to Laduguer's discipline arrive with iron-hard, ash-pale skin and tireless focus. They are expected to earn their place at the bellows, in the mines, or on the anvil line; idleness is blasphemy.   There are many smelters, patterners, riveters, and reclaim crews operate on bell-clocks that never truly stop. Every shift ends with a Proofing, where tools weighed, welds tested, oaths renewed.
