Dragonspawn Pits
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Dragonspawn Pits are more than a divine lair, they are a focal point where Draconic Pantheon politics, the Nine Hells' military might, and the eternal struggle with Bahamut converge. To enter is to step into the beating heart of chromatic dragon ambition, where every glitter of gold may hide a fanged smile. The Dragonspawn Pits, known among mortals as the Cave of Greed, is the dread realm of Tiamat. Located in a jagged mountain cluster on the fringes of Avernus, this divine dominion is at once a fortress, a treasury, and a breeding ground for draconic corruption. Here, every echo carries the rattle of coins. The very air smells of gold, steel, and venom. Dragons of every chromatic hue glide through its chasms, and treasure hoards the size of mortal cities glimmer faintly in the darkness, daring the foolhardy to claim them. The Pits are not merely Tiamat’s home, they are her arsenal, her throne, and the crucible where her plots against gods and mortals alike are forged. Scholars from Sophia-Hold, claim that many a reason that no one breached Avernus, is due to the reason that Tiamat is located there and when an army of demons had happened to draw nears its borders, numerous Demon Lords found themselves dead or captive.
Geography
The Dragonspawn Pits stand not only as Tiamat’s personal fortress but also as a vital stronghold in The Blood War and the ceaseless shadow war she wages against Bahamut. From within these cavernous depths, she breeds and drills chromatic dragons for conquests across both planar and mortal realms, gathers and guards legendary artifacts to deny them to her foes, keeps the Adamant Gate as a potent bargaining tool with the Lords of Hell, and weaves endless plots for the day she will seize the Hells themselves.
The Outer Approach
The realm sprawls across a cluster of serrated hills and black mountains. At its heart rises the Pillar of Lies — a colossal column composed of the petrified and screaming heads of oathbreakers, their mouths forever muttering deceit. At the base churns the Maggot Sea, a writhing pit from which lemures crawl endlessly into the service of Hell’s armies. Travelers must cross the Maggot Sea to reach the caves. Flight is safest, though some desperate souls swim, where few emerge unscathed. The Cave of Greed
Beyond the sea lies the Cave of Greed, a glittering cavern piled high with cursed treasure. The gold here whispers to intruders, promising power, immortality, or escape, but to touch it is to bind one’s soul to Tiamat’s hoard. The curse is subtle: the victim slowly transforms into a draconic servant or petrifies into a gem-encrusted statue for Tiamat’s amusement. The Five Consort Chambers
Five immense lairs branch from the central cavern, each housing one of Tiamat’s great wyrm consorts: black, blue, green, red, and white. Each consort commands an army of lesser dragons, dragonspawn, abishais and mortal cultists. These territories rarely overlap, for their jealousy mirrors that of their queen.Tiamat’s Throne Hall
At the deepest point of the Pits lies The Maw of Supremacy, Tiamat’s personal chamber. A vast hollow lit by molten gold rivers, it is where she receives offerings, passes judgment, and issues commands to her servants. Here rests the Adamant Gate, a portal to Dis, the Second Layer of Baator — but to pass through without Tiamat’s leave is to invite immediate annihilation.Inhabitants
From the smallest wyrmlings to the most ancient of titans, all chromatic dragons bend the knee to Tiamat’s will. Twisted draconic monstrosities, known as the Spawn of Tiamat, are forged in the dark crucibles of her realm. Among her mortal followers are dragonborn and devoted cultists who surrender their lives and souls for the honor of dwelling in her shadow. The Pits also teem with abishai legions, the draconic devils of Hell, bred within these depths and marshaled by Tiamat’s most trusted generals.Localized Phenomena
