Karratas
Karratas is a country located within the continent of the same name, and home to the Karratesian people.
Karratesians are closely related to the humans of Pyalea, originating from a shared ancestor during the Enlightenment, before being separated to develop independently by the expanse of the Parlous Ocean following a subsequent, failed expedition by the Luisant Empire.
The majority of differences between Karratesians and Humans are cultural, but there are some innate physical differences. Karratesians are, on average, physically larger and stronger, and longer-lived.
Karratas is ruled by The Eternal Flame, a god-king said to be periodically reincarnated through a ritualistic rite of self-immolation.
The Karratesians have a unique relationship with fire, as well as flammable chemicals of their own design and making. Fire is sacred to them; the tool, will, and body of their god-king. They practice many rites and rituals revolving around fire and heat, including branding and burning of their own flesh, and the burning and smoking of various substances.
They have also developed a highly-flammable, long-burning chemical concoction called Blood of the Eternal, or Blazeblood. Blazeblood is heavily utilised in their weaponry; used to manufacture an array of explosives, as well as coat and ignite blades, projectiles, and even soldiers. They also inject Blazeblood into their own veins to incite a typically violent frenzy, and into the surface of their skin in the creation of cultural markings.
