Personal history
Auren first appeared in a temple devoted to the Goddess of Storms Hugai, with no trace of where she came from or who might have brought her there. The monks who found her took it as a sign, believing the storms themselves had delivered her. They raised her as one of their own.
Though temple life was never quite suited to her restless spirit, Aurel thrived in its disciplines. She excelled in martial training and grew fond of the monks’ studies—literature, astronomy, and the sciences both natural and arcane. Her education revolved around balance: understanding the elements, the order of the world, and one’s place within it.
At the age of ten, Aurel met a group of students from an adventuring academy passing through on a mission. Their stories of distant lands and heroic deeds stirred something deep within her. She spent months researching the adventuring schools of Prydaria, dreaming of testing her abilities beyond temple walls.
With the blessing of her caretakers, she visited several academies—each one recognizing her rare blend of skill, intellect, and elemental grace. In the end, she chose to attend Mage Academy, even though it meant leaving behind everyone she loved and the only home she had ever known. Still, she felt the call of destiny on the wind and believed this path would lead her closer to understanding who she truly was—and why the storms had chosen her.
Mental Trauma
Outside the temple, Aurel struggled to make friends. Many in her small village viewed her with suspicion or awe—some believed she was the avatar of Hugia, the storm goddess herself, while others feared she might be an infiltrator sent by a rival deity who shared Hugia’s domain. Whether out of reverence or fear, most people kept their distance.
Though her caregivers were kind, they couldn’t provide the same companionship or stimulation that came from being around other children. As a result, Aurel grew somewhat precocious and mischievous within the temple walls—playing pranks on monks and the occasional parishioner. For the most part, the monks tolerated her antics, so long as they caused no harm and left no mess for others to clean.
Her restless energy began to settle when a group of children moved to the village from a nearby city. They welcomed her into their games, and for the first time, Aurel felt accepted. The loneliness of her early childhood, however, left a lasting mark—she became deeply loyal, often overprotective and a bit clingy with those she calls her friends.
Intellectual Characteristics
Aurel often seems carefree—at times even a little flighty or lost in thought. Yet beneath that lighthearted exterior lies a keen and calculating mind. She has an uncanny ability to make precise measurements and judgments with minimal context, a talent that serves her well both in study and in battle.
In combat, Aurel combines this instinctive precision with her remarkable speed, striking with the swiftness and accuracy of a gusting wind—then slipping out of reach before her opponent can retaliate.
Morality & Philosophy
Aurel believes that those blessed with great skill or talent have a responsibility to use their gifts—if not for good, then at least not to let them wither unused. In her eyes, even those who use their powers for selfish or questionable ends show a kind of purpose she can respect. To Aurel, apathy and wasted potential are far greater sins than ambition, no matter how misguided.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Auren wants to learn about her origins and travel all the planes.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Good at making quick judgements of size, distance, and weight. While some would think this as a trick best used for carnival games, Auren uses it to make her a better scout and tactician. Auren also has a great understanding of the arcane arts, being able to recognize or get an idea of the nature of a spell, with minimum information. She easily picks up on the aura spells omit, formation of a glyph, and even the gestures and speech of the caster. She impressed Rouge Herring when she determined an ancient spell he was demonstrating used conjuration, enchantment, and a bit of evocation. In deed he was summoning a fire elemental, and his summoning differ widely from those used today, making it impossible for her to had recognized it from previous observations.
Through all of her knowledge of the arcane she is unable to apply it practically, she has been noted saying she even struggled for a long time with the magic inherent to her for being part elemental. If not for this ineptitude Auren would likely be on the way to become one of the best wizards of her generation.
