Sentinel Academy - Ovyliax Branch
The Sentinel Academy is an elite training institution of the Sentinels, located in the capital city of Ovyliax. Housed within a grand, three-storied building with flanking curved wings, the academy is the primary facility for training new generations of Sentinels to protect the Hegemony of Mistoria. Its curriculum is a demanding blend of physical conditioning, martial prowess, arcane studies, and tradecraft.
Campus & Grounds (Exterior)
The academy is a self-contained campus, secured by a 10-foot stone brick wall with a wrought iron gate.
Front Courtyard: A brick-patterned courtyard serves as the main approach to the academy. It is a lively social hub where students are often seen sparring with blunt weapons, studying on the lawn, or relaxing on benches.
Rear Courtyard and Gardens: Located behind the academy, these areas provide a space for relaxation and more formal instruction.
Outdoor Sparring Arenas: These dedicated training grounds are used for dueling courses. The arenas are magically enchanted; a Sentinel can press a combination of runes on a nearby pedestal to instantly materialize a variety of complex terrains, from a rocky cavern to a marsh, to test the combatants' adaptability.
Sporting Fields and Courts: Used for general athletics and team-based activities.
Weapon Ranges: The academy has multiple ranges for both archery and firearms practice. They are designed with covered sections to allow for training in inclement weather.
Interior Facilities
The academy's interior is a labyrinth of functional and ornate spaces, designed to facilitate every aspect of a Sentinel's education.
Public & Social Areas
Front Desk: The first point of entry into the main building. It is a rectangular chamber with polished marble floors and walls of jagged black stone featuring artificial waterfalls. A security warden is always posted here to manage access and provide information.
Library: A large and well-stocked library containing a vast collection of texts, including bestiaries, historical accounts, and field manuals. The library employs an archivist sphinx to manage its extensive archives.
Refectory and Kitchens: A large dining hall in the East Wing with multiple wooden tables and a serving counter. It serves as the primary dining area for candidates and faculty.
Cafe and Bar: A more informal social space for students to relax, study, and socialize.
Academic & Training Areas
Faculty Offices: While most faculty share an open office space, while more senior members have small, private offices.
Stormwind Lecture Hall: The main auditorium for academy-wide gatherings, orientations, and important lectures. It is a large, semi-circular chamber with descending rows of connected desks that can seat forty people.
Minor Lecture Rooms: Smaller classrooms used for more specialized courses and group instruction.
Arcanic and Alchemy Laboratories: Dedicated workshops for practical instruction in spellcasting, potion-making, and other arcane sciences. These rooms are often heavily ventilated and smell of smoke and sweet herbs.
Chapel: A triangular chapel dedicated to the three Celestial Founders (Xalin, Tyrane, and Setin) and the dragon Lutiya Bahamut. The interior contains stone statues of each Founder and a ceiling painted to resemble the sky. It is open at all hours for prayer and meditation.
Collaboration Rooms: Small rooms for private meetings and tutoring.
Residential & Recreational Areas
Dormitories: Located in the East wing of the academy. Candidates are housed in private 10x10-foot rooms, each sparsely furnished with a bed, a desk with a built-in arcane letterbox, a closet, and an adjacent bathroom. The dormitories are centered around a large common room with couches, tables, and a refreshment station.
Gymnasium, Training Arenas, and Obstacle Course: Located beneath the ground floor, this massive chamber is the heart of the academy's physical training. It contains:
- An extensive obstacle course with balance beams, climbing walls, and other challenges.
- A section with barbells, weights, and athletic equipment.
- A dedicated combat training area with weapon racks, punching sacks, and a 50-foot sparring ring used for battling animated training armor.
