Gricklesnat Themalcopper (Grik-ell-snatt They-mall-copper)

A consummate scientist and researcher, Gricklesnat or 'Grickle' never enjoyed the deep mining or crystal gathering of his kind. Instead, he would seek out the unknown cracks and crevices available to him to seek that which was unknown, unheard, or unspoken. His travels away from his clan led him closer to the surface and into the dungeons and hidden areas that were buried by the upper societies.

His years of travels finally led him into contact with a group of miners led by Avari Haxilmethrinkin in Avari's Cave, to the joys that followed, and the tragedy that befell them. After the horror that he discovered when he returned to the cave, he in turn isolated himself into his studies and into the orange crystals he had recently discovered. In the subsequent expeditions, he also discovered many broken clockwork machines and was able to repair some which in turn assisted his work and provided him a form of companionship he hadn't felt since he found his family butchered.

When he finally discovered the effects of the crystals, he knew what his purpose for them would be and began to initiate his plan to one day be a part of the destruction of the Coven of the Black Mother.

Personal history

Gricklesnat or 'Grickle' was an outlier amongst the deep gnomes of his community, drawn to the mysteries of the world rather than the traditional crafts of his kin. Overcome by wanderlust, he explored dungeons and ruins, his research taking him nearer the surface every year. His life took a pivotal turn upon meeting Avari and her mining team in Avari's Cave. He experienced joy in their companionship and shared love for discovery until a disaster struck. Upon his return from an errand, he found his newfound friends slaughtered. Devastated, Grickle withdrew into isolation, burying himself in research and the orange crystals that piqued his latest curiosity. His discoveries of broken clockwork machines gave way to a new passion and a surrogate family through the companions he repaired and repurposed.

Mental Trauma

Grickle fears returning to the life of monotony that his kinsfolk lead. The fear of social interactions and large gatherings also bothers him, likely due to the trauma of his past. He's haunted by the potential discovery of horror similar to what happened in Avari's Cave.

Intellectual Characteristics

Grickle has a habit of talking to himself and his clockwork companions as if they were sentient. He frequently loses track of time when engrossed in his studies and forgets to sleep or eat. Intrinsically curious and brilliant, Grickle is an introverted thinker who finds solace in his research. He's meticulous, patient, and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Although he's withdrawn from gnomish society, he shows a soft spot for his mechanical creations, treating them almost like family.
