Avari's Cave

This cave was actually the beginning of a mine created by overlanders decades ago. Gricklesnat Themalcopper  was attracted by the noise from deep in the underdark as the miner's began to penetrate the underdark network. Observing from the shadows, he kept himself silent and hidden from the group. It wasn't until he saw the most beautiful creature he had ever known step off the elevator platform that he found himself walking towards the miners. As the miners took up a defensive posture around their superintendent, Grickle stepped into the torchlight. It was then he introduced himself to the gnome who would become his wife, Avari Haxilmethrinkin.

Grickle worked with the mining crew for no other reason than to spend time with Avari. What started as days, turned into months, which turned into years. His love for Avari eventually produced a daughter named Luthina. Years of mining and exploring allowed Grickle an episode of peace not found in the depths of the underdark; until Agnes came.

Thirteen years ago Aunt Agnes moved into the area and created her coven with her two sisters. With her trips to Hommlet and the surrounding area she soon discovered the gnomes of the mine and watched. Discovering how deep and profitable the mine was, Agnes couldn't let it continue. Grickle, returning from a deep exploration returned to find the cavern entrance collapse and the miners, with their families butchered. When he found Avari, holding Luthina, his temporary peace, and his sanity was shattered.

Currently, he continues to explore the mine and surrounding caves, mapping out his finds and pursuing his interests day after day, never leaving the mine for long. His mechanical clockwork spiders and strange orange crystals his only companions.
