Hans' Haven
A large, unkempt house in Gendarmenmarkt, accessible via a shared courtyard or the main door from Mohrenstrasse.
Description
Entering from the street you walk directly into a decently sized entrance hall-come-sitting room, with an oddly grand staircase leading up to the second floor. There are mismatched sofas and armchairs surrounding a plain fireplace. Paint is flaking off the walls, dust and plaster has fallen from the ceiling to lie on the threadbare carpet (green, to match the walls). A full tiger skin rug lies off-angle by the soot-stained fireplace. The sitting room leads to a long dining room Dominating this room is a grand mahogany table and six matching chairs, each expertly hand carved, though they've all seen better days. A stained cream lace tablecloth enshrouds the surface of the table. There are two side tables/cabinets, similarly grand but scratched/dusty, along with a Swiss carriage clock and a pair of ornate lamps (only one works). Bare wires dangle from the ceiling where presumably light fittings once hung. Two doors lead off of the dining room; one to the courtyard (and onwards to Hans' Bookshop - Antiquariat Hatry), and one to the kitchen. The kitchen is bare. A handful of cabinets, an old fridge (powered, fan clunks a little but it works), and a cooker that has a thick layer of grime and old fat on the hob. The cabinets have a wide array of various glasses, jugs, and mugs. None match. Another door leads down to an extensive cellar. The grand double staircase leads up to the second floor
