Novor
“A copper in every pocket and a knife at every throat.” –Scribbled in Thieves’ Cant on city walls
Novor Empire
Structure
Novor is ruled by a Tsar, currently Gregori III, who is heavily influenced by and constantly challenged by a multitude of Boyars (princes) who vie for prominence among subjects and in the royal court, leading to massive instability as Boyars compete for power, money, and influence among both the courts and the general populace.
Culture
Novor boasts the largest population in the region aside from Zalozie. Being a feudal society, the majority of the population are serfs who are treated as little more than property to their Boyar masters. Most own few possessions and work primarily to survive. The Novori do have plenty of songs, folktales, and peasant traditions, but they only make up a small part of daily life. For landed and titled Novori, life revolves around political and social climbing, and both formal and informal gatherings among the elite are little more than excuses to maneuver and scheme.
Territories
Climate: Western Russia
Military
The military of Novor relies on numbers to pursue victory. The bulk of the army, when it is needed, is mostly comprised of hastily conscripted peasant levies put together by local Boyars on short notice. Most end up going into battle with no training at all. The small body of regulars are relatively well-trained infantry and some heavily armored knights, which typically come from the ranks of the social elite.
Religion
The people of Novor cling to religion as it is one of the few non-work activities to which they have access, and their devotion is used by the Boyars to keep their serfs in line.
Foreign Relations
Tsar Gregori III is primarily concerned more with maintaining internal stability then pursuing far-flung political objectives on a regional or global scale, especially with Zalozian communism so close-by. The Boyars, however, are aggressively expansionist, especially in regards to regions where land has been taken from Novor over the years, which they desire to reclaim.
Agriculture & Industry
The economy is almost entirely based around farming and mining in almost equal measure.
Trade & Transport
Trade is virtually nonexistent as few have money to spend on nonessential goods.
