Promenade
Promenade is one of the largest cities in Soirenta, and the first city most newcomers to The World Behind experience due to the positioning of the Stabilizer Portal just south of the city. It is positioned on the end of the peninsula that separates the Silent Shallows from the greater ocean, and has decks on both sides as it acts as the middle man for trade between much of Soirenta and Kayenta. It also has a booming trade of 'Other-side' items, as it's not only people who end up coming through the portal, and wares from the other world usually garner some interest even if they seem mundane. Thanks to the need to sort through these items (and specifically sort out anything dangerous) arcane style casters are always in demand in Promenade's trade companies.
Population wise, Promenade has one of the most diverse assortments of both Saurian and non-Saurian peoples. Errants, Ceratians, and Jeholraks are the most common Saurians, but practically all buildings with more than five stories have their top stories dedicated to Dromeus style housing, and there's even the occasional Limukin to be spotted working at the docks where their nimble climbing comes in handy. The city is run by a council, each from a family with deep roots in Promenade, and the handover of seats is a rare and much-gossiped over affair. The current largest scandal of the council is that the representative of the Errant 'Boneshine' family is a non-Saurian, a human woman who was adopted into the family as a child.
The city has formed naturally into separate districts with fuzzy lines between them, with two port districts to match the two docks. While there are plenty who live in the city in multi-unit housing, the city also spreads in a manner that drifts from urban to suburban down the peninsula, though a large space is given to the Portal. Eventually it drops off into a more rural landscape, with fishing and farming being plentiful around the edge of The Shallow Sea and into the southern plains. Other districts include the commercial zone, the trade/shopping district, a more cultural area, and the non-Saurian neighborhood. While there's no official policies on where non-Saurians can live, they tend to find the accommodations in that neighborhood more friendly for mammals than the rest of Promenade's living areas.
Central to the city is the hatchery. It is not coincidence that this is the most well protected part of the city. While some parents prefer to incubate their eggs at home in the traditional manner, Promenade also provides facilities where parents can entrust their eggs to the care of specialists, who nurture their clutches along till hatching day, and special care units for babies who hatch and need help the parents can't reasonably provide.
