Jeholrak

A humanoid Saurian species descended from a small sub-clade of neornithischian dinosaurs, named for their resemblance to Jeholosaurus and other small, herbivorous dinosaurs. They rarely grow to more than four feet at the shoulder, and most hover around three feet. In comparison to the Errant's long, streamlined feathering, Jeholrak's feathers tend to be short and dense, appearing like fur from a distance, and are usually less saturated colors better for camouflage. They live 50-60 years, and have clutches of five to six eggs at a time that are cared for by a combination of their parents and elder siblings.

They have a reputation for frequently producing talented arcanists, with a whole list of magical savants from the Age of Heroes being Jeholraks, something that is held as a matter of pride. In some Jeholrak families bloodlines are carefully tracked, both to avoid accidental inbreeding (Jeholraks, descending from a more bottle-necked ancestor, have a smaller gene pool), and to track direct descendants of those heroes who go on to show magical talent themselves.
