Humanity's Little Death
What history books call the night when a majority of the bombs fell, bringing about an apocalyptic end to what people now call the Before Times.
That Night
Prelude
If there were warning signs leading up to the deployment of the bombs, none of the survivors that eventually built Willowmoor saw them. One moment we were living our normal lives, and the next moment, we were fleeing in fear as the fabric of the modern world was rent asunder in fire and ash.
Event
Later, survivors from far outside Willowmoor would share their experiences, leading us to understand that places thousands of miles away from each other were struck at the same time. Was it faulty information from one or more world powers? A virus from a hacker or some new technology? No one could say what caused the sudden and tragic destruction, and probably no one ever will. Government establishments, heads of state, military strongholds, power grids, major cities and ports were all hit the hardest and most immediately...and somehow, if reports were to be believed, all at once. That was only within the first night.
Outcome
For months after, the hum of drones would send survivors across the land into a frenzy as they tried to find shelter, for the bomb blasts always returned anew with the drones. Who was piloting them, though? Was anyone? It remains an unsolved mystery to this day.
Aftermath
After roughly a year, the survivors began to notice that it had been some time since they last heard one of the drones or sought shelter from an errant bomb. The barrage on the planet had ended with most of the population wiped out, major transportation and communications methods destroyed or rendered useless, and the former nations and borders that once existed...obsolete.
It was humanity's little death, but the world around it took a sigh of relief as Mother Nature reclaimed the places that had once belonged to people. Perhaps, if we treat her well this time, she'll keep what's left of humanity alive.
Historical Significance
Legacy
Considering it ushered in the Post Apocalyptic era and brought an end to the modern world of the Before Times, Humanity's Little Death was pretty damn significant, and its legacy will be felt for generations to come as we rebuild a new world.
Running feet became thunder
Fiery pain was our lightning
Wild visions filled our minds
Of a cloud like a shroom
As we fled from the storm
From our fear
From our doom
