Rosewood Kingdom

Located on a penisula, the Rosewood Kingdom originally formed when six major noble families joined forces against enemy invaders. Since then, they have supported the monarchy while defending their borders for many years and in many wars. But the nobility has lost its original purpose, obsessed with believing they have every right to demand more from their subjects.   In the past century, the nobles have grown more and more corrupt. While they still give the royal family its proper share of taxes, they profit greatly from bribery and excessively high taxes. Infrastructure money is mostly used for mansions, instead of for roads. Officers embezzle instead of properly training their troops. Royal navy ships are even directly gifted to the six families.   Things got even worse under the current ruler, Queen Blanche. Despite taking the throne, she lets her six Regents rule the land, while wasting her own tributes on art and entertainment. Those begging for her aid, are rebuffed and left at the mercy of the nobles that exploit them. The military is even used against the people, forcing them into submission.   While the royal heir Lord Clarke is at The Academy, at home things are steadily heading into a civil war. The border fortifications now are not only to keep the enemies out, but also to keep the people locked up inside the penisula. It is only a matter of time before a bloody rebellion happens.

History

Before the Rosewood Kingdom was founded, its six regions were all independent, each ruled by a major noble family that commanded several smaller nobles. When neighbouring countries started gathering troops, the leaders realised they would not be able to survive by themselves. They allied together, and when the war came, they fought together.   During the war, a small noble family, named the Rosewoods, fought bravely while secretly using Tarot abilities to aid the army. After the war ended, the six major families decided they needed to unify into a single country, but none of them wanted to lead. That was when they promoted Rosewoods into the new royal family. Heroes of the people, they would be the ultimate symbol of the unification.

Territories

The Rosewood Kingdom lies on a peninsula, consisting of six provinces. Each province is named after its ruling noble family. Veridian and Cerise form the eastern landborder of the kingdom. To their west are Amaranth and Mindaro, which surround the Rosebush Capital. In the far west lie Carmine and Azure.   Tax profits from each province are split into six. Each part of this income has a dedicated purpose:
  • Tribute to the ruling nobles
  • Aiding the provincial military
  • Maintaining provincial infrastructure
  • Tribute to the Queen
  • Aiding the royal navy
  • Maintaining border fortifications

Yeah some of the prompts I make up new stuff which fit with what I already know, but then some, like this one, I go 'hold on, I have the perfect fit here' and bring out my notebooks.

Queen Blanche sounds like the worst.   I really love the history of the place. Interesting that none of the other families wanted to lead, though. Guess they thought it was a thankless task?

It also would have upset the balance between the six families, so an elected neutral party was considered a better solution. But yeah, I have a few quotes written down for the future confrontation between the Queen and Lord Clarke.
