The Cosmic Eye

Called the Cosmic Eye on the Myrios Side, and the Watchers Eye on the Prime Side.

If this story ever becomes a TV show this is the opening that it should have.

We see a large asteroid floating lazily through space. It turns end over end as it moves. Suddenly it collides with a force field and for an instant we can see through the force field like it is a glass window and the other side is teeming with color. With nebulas, and planets, and comets filling the space. There is a shock of lightning around the edges of the window and then it closes, and all we see is the black of space once again. The asteroid continues its lazy, end over end, journey in a new direction now, having bounced off the invisible wall ahead.

Credits are over this entire piece and the Music is ethereal and full of nuanced beauty.

Geography

The Watchers Eye is a portal into a pocket universe where the Itherian Empire story is happening. It was created by the Byni and is considered a natural phenomenon on the planet Neman which is next to. It is not visible until it opens at a certain time each day then when it opens it is a beautiful wormhole like structure with circular form and lots of colors. The center of the anomaly is a flat transparent window that the other galaxy can be seen through but it is not possible to just fly through it with a spaceship. When it closes it becomes invisible but the space is still "solid" and if a ship tries to fly through it they will hit it and be damaged from the collision. Many ships have been lost this way.

Ecosystem Cycles

The Nemanoi society is centered around the Eye. It is central to their religion and their commerce is controlled by it. The Jimenna think it is pretty but take it for granted as just the way the sky looks during the day.

Localized Phenomena

When the Watchers Eye is approached and opened unnaturally there is lightning discharged and the object approaching will be struck with its rather massive charge.

History

The Byni created the Watchers Eye Gate in 482-484 and used it to explore our galaxy. They came through and interacted with the ancient Nemanoi in mischievous ways and these stories are central to the myth and religion of the Nemanoi society.

When Itheria attacked Byni in 1046 and when Byni fell in 1048 they abandoned the gate in order to keep secret the method of passing through it in order to protect the Nemanoi and those other races living on this side. The Itherians tried to get them to disclose the method of using the gate but the Byni convinced them that it was a natural phenomenon and it was not possible to pass through it. Since then the Nemanoi have believed that it is a pathway to the gods and that god is watching them through it. They open and close business for each day based on the gate opening or closing because all business needs to be done "under gods eye" in order to be legitimate. Other actions are also done during gate is open hours if the Nemanoi person wants the other person to believe that they are being honest. The Nemanoi believe that if they do a dishonest thing under gods eye then the next catastrophe in their life is his punishment for that thing. When horrible things happen they ask the question "What did you do under gods eye?"

Tourism

This is not a location anyone wants to come visit. Many starships have been damaged from coming across it when it was closed and others from trying to go through it. Our heroes will figure out how to go through it and then it will become a gateway for the story to cross over into the Itherian universe.
